MLC 2006 Awareness
MLC 2006 Awareness
ASM takes a big step towards certification to the Maritime Labour Convention of 2006 (MLC 2006) with an awareness training last Saturday, 11 Feb 2012. This half-day event called upon the attendance of all employees and officers of ASM with participation from ISNTC.
Mr. Alberto Gomez, CEO and President, opened the day with the president’s address focusing on two things: (1) how the current global economic conditions are affecting the whole industry and the Hartmann Group to which ASM belongs and (2) how ASM will once again take on an improvement opportunity with MLC 2006 being a major catalyst.
Mr. Oliver Aborque, Quality Management Representative, carefully selected the titles, regulations and codes applicable to ASM as a Crewing Manning Company or a Seafarers Recruitment and Placement Services (SRPS) provider. The presentation was primarily based on materials from the International Labour Organization (ILO), Germanischer Lloyd (GL), Antigua & Barbuda, Liberia, Marshal Island and the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA).
Mr. Aborque tried to keep the attention of the attendees to the MLC 2006 by talking about relevant issues such as:
- Knowing why ASM needs the MLC 2006 certification,
- Learning about MLC 2006 – history and principles,
- Determining the requirements of the MLC 2006 and to understand the expectations from ASM, and
- Being prepared for audits and certification.
After the knowledge check at the end of the training session, lunch was served and tokens were given to those who came early and to those who achieved high scores.
