COMPASS is a part 2 of a SAIL series which was started in 2007. This will focus on the assessment of the actual cases. The idea was realized after noticing a series of conflicts between leading staff of engine and deck, between ship personnel and shore personnel and between commercial concern and safety of a vessel.
Compass came out when ALG requested for a maritime sounding acronym title as SAIL (Sharpening Aptitude In Leadership) Program. Compass is a navigational instrument for determining direction relative to the Earth's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_pole Magnetic pole" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_pole">magnetic poles. The compass greatly improved the safety and efficiency of travel. It is one of the primary navigational instruments on board ship. It gives correct direction where the ship should go.
It is expected that at the end program, participants will be able to communicate correctly, behave assertively and positively and successfully manage conflict that they encounter in different work situations.
Participants on this program are exclusively management level officers and engineers only.
Furthermore, the entire management is expecting that after the said program, participants will have their own COMPASS that will direct them to a safe and successful shipping operation and correct direction on their career.
